La Morisma is a festival in the form of popular theater that commemorates the reconquest of Aínsa around the year 724, when, according to tradition, a burning cross appeared on a holm oak, encouraging the Christian troops to achieve victory over the Moors.
Every two years, the arcaded square of Aínsa becomes the perfect stage for the performance of La Morisma, which recalls the battle against the Moors during the reign of the legendary King Garci Ximénez.
The locals of the region gather to become, for a few hours, the leading actors of this unique theater, which consists of the performance of a historical-popular drama passed down from generation to generation.
