After visiting the medieval town of Aínsa, its old quarter with the arcaded main square, its streets, its museums, crossing the castle’s courtyard and passing a wooden bridge over the citadel’s moat, you reach a large parking lot. Head to the right. A wooden sign indicates “Cruz Cubierta.” This circular pavilion was built in 1655 to commemorate the battle of the Reconquest of Aínsa from the Muslims. Between the eight columns and surrounded by an old fence is the stone representation of the Cross on the kermes oak, symbol of Sobrarbe and the first quarter of the Aragon coat of arms. It is a peaceful setting. In summer, best visited early in the morning or at sunset.
